“Little wings”
After the war, the children of Gaza are no longer the same. Their faces bear the marks of the unbearable, and their fragile hearts yearn for a glimmer of hope, a moment of safety. Their souls are filled with fear, nostalgia, and worry, but one truth remains: their desire to live, to play, and to dream again. From this conviction was born the idea of the Festival, whose slogan “We love life tomorrow” aims to offer a moment of joy and creation for the children who were victims of two years of genocide. It is an attempt, both artistic and emotional, to be reborn thru art, a tool capable of healing the wounds of war.
In light of the success of this first edition, which took place from November 11 to December 11, 2025, The Masharawi Fund for Films and Filmmakers in Gaza has decided to continue this project in the form of a mobile cinema that screens films daily in all accessible areas of the Gaza Strip (North Gaza, Gaza City, Central Zone, and South). Under the name “Little Wing,” the mobile cinema aims to continue this daily screening schedule until the end of 2026.
Thru these screenings, the “Little Wings” cinema offers a varied film program, where children can, for the first time in two years, safely discover or rediscover the magic of cinema.
Thru this initiative, we want to tell these children that a normal life awaits them, that they are not forgotten, and that they are not alone. We hope that during this brief experience, by participating in the activities, they will find comfort and a spark of hope that will reconnect them to life.
The importance being to promote a culture of cinema and art as tools for healing and personal expression, and to highlight the role of the arts in the reconstruction of communities after a crisis.
Today more than ever, cinema is essential for this generation. Thru it, as thru culture and the arts, life takes its place again. There is in art a form of magic, a capacity to touch, to repair, to open a path to healing.
In contexts where everything seems fragile, culture remains one of the few things that cannot be occupied or confiscated. It remains an inner refuge, a space of freedom that no one can take away. And in such a difficult situation, this support becomes vital to help the children overcome the traumas they have experienced. We wish to schedule more screenings to reach as many children as possible and offer the greatest number access to these moments of respite. Each activity has been designed to create a framework of psychological safety, a safe space where children can express themselves, be listened to, and feel respected.
Beyond the numbers, it is moments of joy that have marked the faces: shared laughter, illuminated gazes, moments of lightness in sometimes difficult contexts. The impact is tangible, not only on the children but also on their families and their communities.
The Masharawi Fund is hosted by Coorigines, association which is dedicated to artistic promotion and intercultural exchange.
